Always proud of Frog 🙂

God damn, I can still hear that sweet theme song of his.

Frog’s Theme is a damn fine piece of music.

If I wasn’t on mobile I’d link more pieces kf music. That was a damn fine soundtrack.

A damn fine soundtrack for one of the best games ever made

Man I wish I still had my original cartridge. I got it at a garage sale for like 10$ in the mid 90s. I really miss that game. One of the best stories of its day. Period. Book, movie, or otherwise. Between Chrono trigger, final fantasy 6, and final fantasy 4, I’d say that some of the best fictional fantasy stories were found in the super Nintendo.

Final Fantasy 6 was the best of the Final Fantasy series…although I’d say 10 is my favorite, but 6 is a very close second. And I loved 5, although I’m biased cuz that was my first Final Fantasy…such a shame that series has gone downhill since 10-2.

I never got to play the original SNES, although I did play the remake on the DS. I regret not being into RPGs that weren’t Pokemon when I was younger, but oh well. I wouldn’t have been able to play the original anyway, since my parents stupidly got rid of our SNES when we got the N64. I didn’t allow them to get rid of the N64 once the GameCube came out, thankfully. But alas, what I wouldn’t give to have a SNES of my own…maybe one of these days I’ll have to try and pick one up, if the opportunity arises.

Emulation and the remakes are proof these games are still some of the best. FFX wasn’t bad, but I sold my copy back to gamestop. 6 is still my favorite but I haven’t played any of the main games after 12 and I only played a handful of spinoffs like tactics advance. I LOVED 8 THOUGH.

I am the oddball who thought that 7 was awful because the game desperately wanted you to think Cloud was awesome but I always found him to be annoying and dull. Squall in FF8 was refreshing since the game basically set him up as “another cool loner type who don’t need no friends and is sarcastic and aloof” and then spends 2/3 of the game slapping the sulk out of him and the end of the game he becomes a likeable character and leader in his own right. Like the writers looked back at 7 and realized what they created and made FF8 to tell all the cloud-wannabes that emulating cloud isn’t really the path to being a functional human being.

THANK GOD SOMEBODY ELSE DOESN’T LIKE FF7.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t BAD…but Cloud was just a douche. I’ve never liked him, and I honestly love the part of the game where you ditch him (and Tifa) and freaking CID leads the party.

I never beat 8 (just never got around to it before I had to give my friends copy back to him), but Squall is significantly more likable than Cloud, even at his worse. Plus, gunblade. ‘Nuff said.

FUCK YEAH GUNBLADE! It’s a sword……AND A REVOLVER! How badass is that?

But yeah, Cloud just got so tedious to push around by about midway through the game. FF8 is a slog and the whole reality/timeline shifts with Laguna are more distracting than fun, but the supporting cast is also better. Irvine’s plotline is fascinating and Zell is another one who starts out annoying but the game chips away at his whiny exterior to reveal a more robust, likeable character within.

But at the end of the day, the best Final Fantasy character will always be Tidus. Because

Sadly, the gif borked.

But I disagree and still maintain 6 is best. Though that might be more to the fact that X had an amazing story weighed down by tedious gameplay. I miss the SNES ATB system…..THose skill cube tree things in X were too much. And Tidus sounds like sandpaper to my eardrums in some cutscenes. I mean, come on, how can you compete with the opera scene in 6?!?!?

I agree about the whole leveling system in X. Or rather, the skill tree, as you said. I think i preferred the battle system in X more, but then my main type of games are tactical turn based RPGS, such as Fire Emblem and Disgaea. So I’m slightly biased there. 6 was an overall stronger game, I will admit. The story is generally better (and Kefka is a better villain than Sephiroth will ever be), and the characters are (mostly) explored to a greater extent (Gogo, Umaro, and Mog are the exceptions). I think Tidus is a bit more human than most of the other characters in the entire series, however. Some people think he’s a tad whiny, and he is, but then, I think most normal people would react similarly to how he would. So I relate to him far more than most characters in the entire series.

Chronotrigger is the best JRPG ever made, period, and the fact that nobody’s managed to surpass it in more than 20 years is FUCKING BULLSHIT. But that’s because everybody decided copying FF7 was the wave of the future, somehow managing not to notice that FF7 is fucking awful.

FF6 is the best Final Fantasy game by A LOT, but I retain a soft spot for 4, 5, Tactics, and 9. I saw a really interesting FF6 Let’s Play once that was got all into the philosophy of the game and how they integrated the gameplay into it and such, but episodes came out so slowly that I lost track of it and I can’t remember what it was called or who did it. =(
