Carla used to be an actress, and a rather fine one. We met in a class, and I was lucky to have her as a partner. We worked on our assigned pieces with the energy only the young and carefree can muster.
I was a bit shy at first, but I had a few scripts I had been working on myself. I was reluctant to share, but Carla really encouraged me to work with her on them. How could I refuse? She is truly an inspiration.
Even now, I do make her practice her “Carla” character for hours each day. This character is smart and assured and in no way completely under my control. It’s been a long road to get here, but Carla now fully inhabits the role she was born to play.
Though she’s less an actress now. More my prop.
