You’ll find examples of nonbinary and GNC people being accepted all over the ancient and non-western world. It’s almost like sex and gender are actually spectrums and heteropatriarchy isn’t normal.

As I am fond of pointing out, pre/early Medieval Jewish law traditionally recognizes six categories of human being for purposes of gendered rituals and rules: zachar (male), nekeivah (female), androgynos (intersex), tumtum (nonbinary/agender), ay’lonit (AFAB man), and saris (AMAB woman).
