For the anynom who requested a mother, daughter and guest story (a long time ago). This is a two parter. The second part is here.
Mrs. Rebecca Spurling watched the demonstration with disinterest. This was the last presentation today by a security firm. Since her husband’s passing the Spurling family had withdrawn from public life, but being rich they still drew interest. After an attempted break-in at their Florida home, while her daughter was there, Rebecca realized that she needed to get serious about keeping the family safe. That meant private security, which like everything meant dealing with salesmen.
Rebecca had always disliked salesmen, they all seemed devious and tricky, as if they were trying to pull one over on her. The first presentation had been dull, a PowerPoint slideshow and then a surprisingly expensive cost estimate.
This second presentation, was a video with surprisingly high production value. It started with an explanation that sometimes the thing that put people in the most danger was their own actions and that an effective security team had to have complete control over the people they were protecting.
Complete control.
It was at that point that Spurling noticed the screen seem to flicker and flash, and she could have sworn a word appeared in the center of the video for a moment. Then another word, just for a moment. The woman leaned forward, watching closely wanting to see if she could catch it and see what it said. The sales pitch on the video had ended, and now it had changed to an odd swirl of colors and spirals. Constantly changing as new age music played, and she watched the colors, looking for the word.
The word.
The word.
Obey.
Obey.
Complete control.
She slipped back, relaxing as the ambient music was replaced with the sound of a voice. Her new security director telling her how he was going to keep her and her daughter safe. Protect them by taking complete control. Complete control.
