So here’s a more hopeful spin on Susan Pevensie. (From the author’s pen to your eyeballs.)
I don’t love those books, but I’m Team Susan on many levels.
tbh I’d be more willing to accept Lewis’ post facto “Susan gets there eventually” if the narrative voice of the Narnia books wasn’t so unrelentingly dickish to the “sinful” children like Eustace.
He’s still treating Susan’s interest in lipstick and nylons with the same contempt with which he mentioned vegetarianism, schools that don’t beat their students, and postwar left-leaning politics in earlier books, as something to be overcome and grown out of in order to become a Good Conservative Christian™.
