That bill doesn’t help trafficking but you already know that
Within 2 days of it being signed there were already 7 women that had gone missing (THAT’S KNOWN ABOUT/REPORTED) because they were forced back into working on the street and countless more are being contacted by sex traffickers and unable to screen their clients, further putting them into danger. But go off about how this bill is going to stop sex trafficking anon, seeing as you know soooo much.
They’re a troll lol
But for anyone who cares for ACTUAL facts
– The data backs this up. As Angelina Chapin wrote in the Huffington Post , “A 2017 paper by Baylor University economics professor Scott Cunningham and colleagues found that after Craigslist created an ‘erotic services’ section, the rate of female homicides in U.S. cities fell by 17 percent (excluding crimes in which the victim knew her killer, such as domestic violence). The researchers concluded that sex workers who advertised online spent less time on the streets, where they were more likely to face dangerous situations.”
– One New York Times piece from 2017 quotes a sergeant in the San Jose human trafficking unit as saying that with the removal of Backpage, street-based sex workers were more common, and that the department got far fewer tips, making his job even more difficult.

Proposed Federal Trafficking Legislation Has Surprising Opponents: Advocates Who Work With Trafficking Victims “Megan Mattimoe, executive director and staff attorney at Advocating Opportunity, which assisted 150 victims of trafficking this past year, says she has seen Backpage provide information about trafficking victims captured in ads along with data on advertisers to aid in prosecutions. “In our cases,” she says, “Backpage not only complied with prosecutors’ requests, but they would also send someone to trial to testify that those business records were authentic.” Since Backpage closed its adult advertising section in January 2017, Mattimoe says, her organization has seen “victims advertised on sites housed outside the U.S.,” where federal prosecutors have neither subpoena power nor Backpage’s cooperation.
